Top Ships of the 2010s
As I started planning my top songs of the decade list, I had the epiphany to create a list of my favorite ships from year to year of the 2010s. I love creating ship lists, so this was perfect. I narrowed each year down to one specific ship that I went crazy for. This past decade was my teen years so we know I went crazy obsessive over a lot of them, and continued in my college years even though I shouldn't have. I have talked about all of these at some point in my ships' posts, but not all of them are in my top ships of all time. I will say narrowing this down to one per year was hard since 2017 was a year of fandom for me because of Riverdale and Teen Wolf.
Nevertheless, here is my favorite ship for each year of the 2010s.
2010: Ron and Hermione (Harry Potter)
They were my first ever ship, but I went ham in 2010. I read Deathly Hallows right after Half-Blood Prince came out, and that is when I truly became obsessed with Harry Potter. Reading Deathly Hallows and then re-reading the whole series from the beginning made me really fall in love with this couple. This did go into 2011, but the beginning of the decade was pure love for Harry Potter and Romione. I bawled my eyes out after I read the Epilogue knowing they ended up happy.
2011: Sam and Freddie (iCarly)
This is when I found out I really love the enemies to lovers trope. (EN: It's a really good trope.) I screamed when "iOMG" came out and cried for like an hour because they finally were together. The next four episodes dedicated to their relationship I taped with a VHS tape and had to watch live. When "iLostmymind" premiered, I cried at the ending and was praising Jesus. Then the showrunners ruined it by having them break up. I still, to this day, think of situations where they would end up being together.
2012: Jimmy and Sabrina (Raising Hope)
I started shipping them when the show came out in 2010. Finally, in season 2, they got together. In 2012, they got married. My happiness level was so high, and that's why they had to be for this year in particular. I waited for so long for Jimmy to finally get his true love, and it was a dream to see happen. I miss this show sometimes, but it was a great show and ship of the decade.
This one is still relevant, and wow, does it hurt. I watched season 3 and then binged the rest. I watched season 4 in one day, and I am still watching the ending as I cry and listen to the ending song play over and over again. I don't know how season 5 is going to happen, and I just keep reading fanfiction to see what might be. I don't know if these two will get a happy ending, and I really want it, but I don't know how it'll happen with him in Hell and her on Earth.
This sums up my ships as a teenager and young adult. I wonder what will be my top ships for the next ten years. See you guys next week for my top shows of the decade.
2013: Nick and Jess (New Girl)
One episode: "Coolers". Literally, the best kiss scene to me in TV history. My God, it was terrific. I, of course, shipped it from the beginning, but luckily we finally got to see them get together in season 2 and watch their relationship in season 3. Of course, they had to make them break up for drama, and then have the "will they ever get back together?" plot, but we ended this show with them married and a clip of their son as well, so 2013 was the year of Nick and Jess.
2014: Danny and Riley (Baby Daddy)
Now I shipped this hard in 2014, and I really went deep into this one. This is the only fandom I can remember being prevalent in this year. When she finally knew she loved him back, I was so happy. Then in later seasons, they got together, got married, and had a son. So I'll just be here remembering how much I couldn't wait for them to finally realize they were soulmates.
2015: Monica and Chandler (Friends)
I did not see this one coming. I went and binged all 10 seasons in two weeks over Christmas break. My family didn't really watch Friends, so I knew nothing about this show. When they got together, I was shocked, and I loved it. Who cares about Rachel and Ross? These two were the real MVPs of the show. A true couple to look up to.
2016: Klaus and Cami (The Originals)
I spent so many years banning vampire and werewolf shows, and I wish I kept it that way. After I got into this show and Vampire Diaries, the teen show genre got me. I fell in love with this couple and how she was helping him towards redemption (which I apparently love in most of my favorite male characters), and how they slowly fell in love with one another. I cried when she died the first time. They didn't get a happily ever after and I am still hurt after four years. At least they were there for one another at the time.
2017: Betty and Jughead (Riverdale)
I haven't freaked out this much since Harry Potter, so this was a big fandom year for me. Stydia was a close second, but Bughead reigns supreme. I read fanfiction all summer to see how they would be together in the opening of season two. Of course, the show was ruined in season 2 and 3, but the early days of this ship still hold a place in my heart. I now only watch this show for them and the love that they have.
2018: Dwight and Caroline (Poldark)
I do love a good period drama. These two made me fall in love with them fast. Watching their struggles was so hard, and they always kept getting hit with such hard times. When they finally got together, I was so happy until the death of their first daughter. Their love does stand the test of time. The show did, however, make their relationship not a priority in the last season, and I am still mad that we didn't get many new cute scenes between these two. I can just go and read the rest of the books to see their happiness.
2019: Lucifer and Chloe (Lucifer)
