Explore Downtown Savannah With Me

Now that I have been living in this city for two years now, I know some of the best places to visit. You have your tourist destinations of course, but I have some hidden gems that most would not know to visit when they come here. Downtown Savannah is a pretty big place with a lot of little wonders hidden around in all the squares. You can get lost easily, so have a map on hand and start your adventure.

First off, we are starting with River Street. It's one of the most popular spots in this city. Right on the Savannah River, you can see all of the old building from the 1600s and the cobblestone streets. There is something to do all the time with so many bars, restaurants, and tourist shops available right there. The night life gets crazy and there is always something going on during the weekend. I work on River Street in the River Street Market where vendors sell the things that they make. A fun stop for sure, but to me, there are better areas in Savannah to explore.

The next spot to check out is City Market which starts at Jefferson St and W St.Julian St, and it is  another great place for good food and shopping. The candy shop is recommended. Then take a stroll down Broughton and you have arrived at the main shopping street in Savannah. They have H&M, Urban Outfitter's, Michael Kors, and other name brand stores. My favorite is Civvies a resale shop where I often find so many beautiful things. The best places to find and get the best coffee and macrons Savannah has to offer are the ones that are harder to find. My favorite places are Paris Market Cafe and The Coffee Fox. Each has a different vibe, but I always go to work in these coffee places.

Now onto the good stuff: the squares. Each one is different and has their own personal touches to them. The popular ones are on Bull Street where you have SCAD's main building. You also have cute little shops along there like Red Clover or Gallery Espresso, which is where you can get amazing coffee and feel like you are in Friends. There are also a lot of antique stores all around and it's just fun to wonder around and see what you can find.

While we are talking about the squares, my favorites are Pulaski and Madison Squares. They have the best designs to them and around the corners you have cute shops or fun old houses and churches that are so beautiful to look at.

While walking through the squares, you can go to local book stores, clothing shops, or just look at the beautiful architecture and live oak trees. A beautiful street to stop by is E. Jones Street where the cobble stone street has beautiful houses that you must see. Down a couple of squares, you have the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist which is a must see. There is a fun place across the street that has great waffles called Mirabelle Cafe, 100% would recommend. As you wander around and take in all the sights, the last thing that you have to see is Forsyth Park.

Not just the park itself is beautiful, but what is around it as well. The houses are exquisite and just walking through this park feel amazing, especially the first time. The trees and the atmosphere are breathtaking, and there are always people in the park doing something: musicians or even weddings. This is a hot spot to be.

Savannah is a very fun city with a lot to do. Always go with friends to make the trip memorable. Take a day or two to do the tourist stuff, and take the rest of the time that you are here to explore and find something new that you will love. That's why I like this city, not just for its beauty and history, but for the fun adventures that I have had just walking around with my best friends.

Shout out to Amelia for taking the photos and Alix for editing these blogs. See you guys Friday for the top songs of April.
